Particle3D ― We Print Bone™
Particle3D is a Danish medico company working to make bone replacements more accurate, effective, and safe.
In 2014, two medical engineering students and their professor invented the disruptive technology with the goal of developing clinically implementable solutions to real medical problems defined by clinicians. This idea came about as a result of working 12 years with bone tissue engineering and seeing unrealistic solutions being promoted for clinical non-problems while real clinical problems remained unsolved.
The then head of the unit for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Odense University Hospital asked them to investigate a new solution for replacing destroyed or surgically removed bone that could surpass all conventional treatments offered. He requested a material that is easily moldable, slowly degradable, and natural to the human body ― allowing surgeons to restore the patient’s tissue to its former shape and composition.
This project resulted in the invention of a unique bio-ink that could be 3D printed into personalized and resorbable implants for human use, and in 2015, a patent application was filed for this novel technology.
Particle3D has received several awards for developing this new technology including the Danish Venture Cup 2017, Best Danish Health Tech Startup 2019, and Best Nordic Health Tech Startup 2020.
